1. Information We Collect
LensEats collects minimal data to provide its services:
- Menu images: Photos you take are sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini API or Alibaba Qwen API) for analysis. Images are not stored on our servers after processing.
- Language preferences: Your chosen UI language and target currency are stored locally on your device only.
- IP Address & Device Usage Data: Your device IP address is sent to our servers for two purposes: (1) to route your request to the appropriate AI service based on your region, and (2) to enforce daily scan quota limits for free users and prevent abuse. VIP subscribers are exempt from scan quotas but IP-based routing still applies to all users.
- Geographical Routing Data: We briefly check your IP address's region to determine the best-performing AI model for you (e.g., routing users in China to the Alibaba Qwen API). This is done purely for technical routing.
- Scan quota: Your daily scan count is tracked via this anonymous IP/Device ID system. No personal accounts are created.
- Anonymous usage analytics: We may collect anonymous, aggregated crash reports and performance data to improve the app. This data cannot be used to identify you.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To process menu images and return translation results to your device
- To automatically route your translation requests to the fastest AI provider for your region
- To monitor and prevent abuse of our free daily scanning quotas
- To improve app performance and fix bugs
- We do not use your data for advertising profiling or sell it to third parties
3. Third-Party Services
LensEats uses the following third-party AI APIs to process menu images:
- Google Gemini API used for users in most regions. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Alibaba Qwen API used for users in China. Subject to Alibaba Cloud's Privacy Policy.
- IP-API.com utilized momentarily to deduce your coarse location (Country) via your device's IP Address for intelligent routing.
For VIP subscriptions, purchases are processed via Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not handle payment information directly.
4. Data Storage & Security
All user preferences and scan quotas are stored locally on your device using standard device storage. Menu images are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and are not retained after analysis is complete.
5. Your Rights
- You may clear all locally stored LensEats data by uninstalling the app
- You may contact us to request information about any data collected
- You may opt out of crash reporting by adjusting your device privacy settings
6. Children
LensEats is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
